Thanks! Would these sculptures be regulary touched up, if they were outside, or were they left to naturally fade and weather?Would changing fashions in colour and style lead to "facelifts" of these objects over the years? It probably is impossible to tell, but interesting to speculate!
That's a good question. We know that buildings were periodically refurbished, and that statues could be repaired or replaced at the same time (there are known repairs to the pedimental sculptures Temple of Zeus at Olympia, for example). One presumes that the painting would be preserved as long as the building was being maintained, if perhaps at irregular intervals.
